Test Description

The numbers below refer to step numbers on the diagnostic table.

  1. 7:  This step tests the EBCM ground circuits.
  2. 8:  This step tests the EBCM battery positive voltage circuits.
  3. 9:  This step tests the EBCM ignition positive voltage circuit.

1 Did you perform A Diagnostic System Check - ABS? - Go to Step 2  Go to Diagnostic System Check - ABS

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. Using the scan tool, perform the Auto Test in the Special Functions menu.
Does the pump motor run for approximately 1-2 seconds?
- Go to Diagnostic Aids Go to Step 4 
4 Inspect for poor connections at the pump motor connector of the electronic brake control module (EBCM). Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
- Go to Step 12  Go to Step 10

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the EBCM harness connector.
  3. Measure the voltage between the battery positive voltage circuits of the EBCM and ground. Refer to Circuit Testing in Wiring Systems.
Does the voltage for both circuits measure as specified?
Approximately 12 V Go to Step 6  Go to Step 8

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Measure the voltage between the ignition positive voltage circuit of the EBCM and ground. Refer to Circuit Testing in Wiring Systems.
Does the voltage measure as specified?
Approximately 12 V Go to Step 7  Go to Step 9 
Test the EBCM ground circuits for an open or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
- Go to Step 12  Go to Step 10 
Test the battery positive voltage circuits for an open, high resistance or short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
- Go to Step 12  Go to Step 10 
Test the ignition positive voltage circuits for an open, high resistance or short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
- Go to Step 12  Go to Step 10 
10 Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the EBCM. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
- Go to Step 12  Go to Step 11 
11 Replace the Brake Pressure Modulator Valve (BPMV) assembly. Refer to Brake Pressure Modulator Valve (BPMV) Replacement .
Did you complete the replacement?
- Go to Step 12  -

  1. Use the scan tool in order to clear the DTCs.
  2. Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Running the DTC as specified in the supporting text.
Does the DTC reset?
- Go to Step 2  System OK
