Removal Procedure

  1. Turn the steering wheel to the straight forward position, support it from movement, and remove the key from the ignition.
  2. Disable the SIR. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
  3. Remove the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement .
  4. Remove the steering column trim covers. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement .
  5. Remove the SIR coil. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Coil Replacement .
  6. Remove the multifunction turn signal switch housing. Refer to Multifunction Turn Signal Switch Housing Replacement .
  7. Remove the ignition lock cylinder case. Refer to Ignition Lock Cylinder Case Replacement .
  8. Remove the instrument panel left insulator panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side .

  9. Remove the 2 upper steering column mounting bolts.

  10. Remove the lower steering column mounting bolt.
    11. IMPORTANT: Do not remove the steering column to intermediate shaft pinch bolt.
  11. Support the lower column as necessary.

  12. Remove the 3 jacket mounting bolts and remove the upper jacket from the steering column.
