Front Axle Hub: Installation
HINT:
- Use the same procedures for the RH side and LH side.
- The procedures listed below are for the LH side.
- INSTALL FRONT AXLE HUB BEARING
- Using SST and a press, press a new hub bearing in the steering knuckle.
SST 09950-60020 (09951-00680), 09950-70010 (09951-07100)
- Using SST and a press, press a new hub bearing in the steering knuckle.
- INSTALL FRONT DISC BRAKE DUST COVER
- Install the front dust cover with the 3 bolts.
Torque: 8.3 N*m (85 kgf*cm, 73 in.*lbf)
- Install the front dust cover with the 3 bolts.
- INSTALL FRONT AXLE HUB SUB-ASSEMBLY
- Using SST and a press, press the axle hub in the steering knuckle.
SST 09950-60020 (09951-00680), 09950-70010 (09951-07100), 09608-32010
- Using SST and a press, press the axle hub in the steering knuckle.
- INSTALL FRONT AXLE HUB HOLE SNAP RING
- Using snap ring pliers, install a new hole snap ring.
- INSTALL FRONT AXLE ASSEMBLY
- Install the front axle to the front shock absorber with the 2 bolts and 2 nuts.
Torque: 132 N*m (1,,350 kgf*cm, 97 ft.*lbf)
NOTE: Only when reusing the bolts and nuts, apply a small amount of engine oil to the screw part of the nuts.
- Install the front axle to the front shock absorber with the 2 bolts and 2 nuts.
- CONNECT FRONT DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY
- Install the drive shaft to the front axle.NOTE:
- Be careful not to damage the outboard joint boot.
- Be careful not to damage the speed sensor rotor.
- Do not excessively push the front axle assembly.
- Install the drive shaft to the front axle.
- CONNECT TIE ROD END SUB-ASSEMBLY
- Connect the tie rod end to the steering knuckle with the nut.
Torque: 49 N*m (500 kgf*cm, 36 ft.*lbf)
- Install a new cotter pin.NOTE: If the holes for the cotter pin are not aligned, tighten the nut an additional 60°.
- Connect the tie rod end to the steering knuckle with the nut.
- CONNECT FRONT NO. 1 SUSPENSION LOWER ARM SUB-ASSEMBLY
- Connect the front suspension lower arm to the steering knuckle with the nut.
Torque: 98 N*m (999 kgf*cm, 72 ft.*lbf)
- Install a new clip.NOTE: If the holes for the clip are not aligned, tighten the nut an additional 60°.
- Connect the front suspension lower arm to the steering knuckle with the nut.
- CONNECT FRONT STABILIZER BAR
- Connect the front stabilizer bar with the 2 cushion retainers, 2 cushions and nut, as shown in the illustration.NOTE: Be sure to install the cushion and retainer in the correct direction.
- Hold the bolt with a wrench spanner and install the nut.
Torque: 18 N*m (184 kgf*cm, 13 ft.*lbf)
- Connect the front stabilizer bar with the 2 cushion retainers, 2 cushions and nut, as shown in the illustration.
- INSTALL FRONT DISC
- CONNECT FRONT DISC BRAKE CYLINDER ASSEMBLY
- Install the brake cylinder with the 2 bolts to the steering knuckle.
Torque: 88 N*m (897 kgf*cm, 65 ft.*lbf)
- Install the brake cylinder with the 2 bolts to the steering knuckle.
- INSTALL FRONT AXLE HUB NUT
- Install a new hub nut.
Torque: 216 N*m (2,200 kgf*cm, 159 ft.*lbf)
- Install a new hub nut.
- DISCONNECT FRONT DISC BRAKE CYLINDER ASSEMBLY NOTE: Use a string or other device to keep the brake caliper from hanging down.
- REMOVE FRONT DISC
- INSPECT FRONT AXLE DEVIATION AND BACKLASH
- Inspect the front axle deviation and backlash (see ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION ).
- INSTALL FRONT DISC
- CONNECT FRONT DISC BRAKE CYLINDER ASSEMBLY
- INSTALL FRONT SPEED SENSOR
- Install the front speed sensor (see INSTALLATION ).
- STAKE FRONT AXLE HUB NUT
- Using a chisel and hammer, stake the hub nut.
- INSTALL FRONT WHEEL
Torque: 103 N*m (1,050 kgf*cm, 76 ft.*lbf)
- INSPECT AND ADJUST FRONT WHEEL ALIGNMENT
- Inspect and adjust the front wheel alignment (see FRONT WHEEL ALIGNMENT ).
- CHECK ABS SPEED SENSOR SIGNAL
- Check the ABS speed sensor signal (see OPERATION CHECK ).
