Differential Side Retainer Oil Seal: Replacement
CAUTION:
If the differential oil is spilt over the exhaust pipe and under cover, completely wipe it off to avoid emission of smoke or causing a fire.
- Remove the center exhaust pipe (rear). Ref. to EXHAUST (H4DOTC)>CENTER EXHAUST PIPE>REMOVAL .
- Drain the differential gear oil by removing drain plug using TORX® bit T70.
- Using a new gasket, tighten the drain plug.
Tightening torque:
70 N.m (7.1 kgf-m, 51.6 ft-lb)
- Remove the front drive shaft. Ref. to PROPELLER SHAFT/DRIVE SHAFT/AXLE>FRONT DRIVE SHAFT>REMOVAL .
- Remove the differential side retainer oil seal using a flat tip screwdriver wrapped with vinyl tape, etc.
- Apply differential gear oil to the press-fitting surface of differential side retainer oil seal and the differential side retainer.
- Install the differential side retainer oil seal using ST by lightly tapping with a hammer.CAUTION: Since the differential side retainer oil seal has an identification mark (R or L), be careful not to mix up the RH and LH when installing.
Preparation tool:
ST: DIFFERENTIAL SIDE OIL SEAL INSTALLER (18675AA000)
- Set the ST to the differential side retainer.

ST: OIL SEAL PROTECTOR (28399SA010)
- Install the front drive shaft. Ref. to PROPELLER SHAFT/DRIVE SHAFT/AXLE>FRONT DRIVE SHAFT>INSTALLATION .
- Install the center exhaust pipe (rear). Ref. to EXHAUST (H4DOTC)>CENTER EXHAUST PIPE>INSTALLATION .
- Refill differential gear oil to adjust the differential gear oil amount. Ref. to CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (TR690)>DIFFERENTIAL GEAR OIL>ADJUSTMENT .
