  1. DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM
    1. Check the indicator.

When the ignition switch is turned ON, check that the ABS warning light comes on for a few seconds.

      HINT:

If the indicator check result is not normal, proceed to the troubleshooting for the ABS warning light circuit (See ABS Warning Light Circuit ).

        HINT:

        • If no code appears, inspect the diagnostic circuit or ABS warning light circuit (See ABS Warning Light Circuit  or Tc Terminal Circuit ).
        • As an example, the blinking patterns for the normal code and codes 11 and 21 are shown in Fig 3.

      4. Codes are explained in the code table on DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART .
      5. After completing the check, disconnect terminals Tc and E1 of the DLC1 or DLC2, and turn off the display.

If 2 or more malfunctions are indicated simultaneously the lowest numbered DTC will be displayed first.

    3. Using TOYOTA hand-held tester, check the DTC.
      1. Connect the TOYOTA hand-held tester to the DLC2.
      2. Turn the ignition switch ON.
      3. Read the DTC by following the prompts on the tester screen.

      HINT:

Please refer to the TOYOTA hand-held tester operator's manual for further details.

    4. In case of not using TOYOTA hand-held tester:

      Clear the DTC.

      1. Using SST, connect terminals Tc and E1 of the DLC2 or DLC1.

        SST 09843-18020

      2. Turn the ignition switch ON.
      3. Clear the DTC stored in the ECU by depressing the brake pedal 8 or more times within 5 seconds.
      4. Check that the warning light shows the normal code.
      5. Remove the SST from the terminals of the DLC2 or DLC1.

      HINT:

Cancellation cannot be done by removing the battery cable or ECU-B fuse.

  2. SPEED SENSOR SIGNAL
    1. In case of not using TOYOTA hand-held tester:

      Check the speed sensor signal.

      1. When the ignition switch is turned ON, check that the ABS warning light comes on for a few seconds.
      2. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
      3. Using SST, connect terminals Ts and E1 of the DLC1.

        HINT:

If the ABS warning light does not blink, inspect the ABS warning light circuit (See ABS Warning Light Circuit ).

      6. Drive the vehicle straight forward.

        HINT:

Drive the vehicle at 45 - 55 km/h (28 - 34 MPH) for several seconds. If the brake is applied during the check, the check routine must be followed again.

      7. Stop the vehicle.
      8. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
      9. Disconnect the SST from terminals Ts and E1 , and connect the SST to terminals Tc and E1 of the DLC1.

        SST 09843-18020

      10. Turn the ignition switch ON.
      11. Read the number of blinks of the ABS warning light.

        HINT:

        - See the DTC list shown in Fig 10.

        - If every sensor is normal, the normal code is output (A cycle of 0.25 seconds ON and 0.25 seconds OFF is repeated).

        - If 2 or more malfunctions are indicated simultaneously, the lowest numbered code will be displayed first.
