Anti-Lock Brake System: Pre-Check
- DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM
- Check the indicator.
When the ignition switch is turned ON, check that the ABS warning light comes on for a few seconds.
HINT:
If the indicator check result is not normal, proceed to the troubleshooting for the ABS warning light circuit (See ABS Warning Light Circuit ).
- Check the DTC.
- Using SST, connect terminals Tc and E1
of the DLC2 or DLC1.

- Read the DTC from the ABS warning light on the combination meter.

HINT:
- If no code appears, inspect the diagnostic circuit or ABS warning light circuit (See ABS Warning Light Circuit or Tc Terminal Circuit ).
- As an example, the blinking patterns for the normal code and codes 11 and 21 are shown in Fig 3.
- Codes are explained in the code table on DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART .
- After completing the check, disconnect terminals Tc and E1 of the DLC1 or DLC2, and turn off the display.
If 2 or more malfunctions are indicated simultaneously the lowest numbered DTC will be displayed first.
- Using SST, connect terminals Tc and E1
of the DLC2 or DLC1.
- Using TOYOTA hand-held tester, check the DTC.
- Connect the TOYOTA hand-held tester to the DLC2.
- Turn the ignition switch ON.
- Read the DTC by following the prompts on the tester screen.
HINT:
Please refer to the TOYOTA hand-held tester operator's manual for further details.
- In case of not using TOYOTA hand-held tester:
Clear the DTC.
- Using SST, connect terminals Tc and E1
of the DLC2 or DLC1.

- Turn the ignition switch ON.
- Clear the DTC stored in the ECU by depressing the brake pedal 8 or more times within 5 seconds.
- Check that the warning light shows the normal code.
- Remove the SST from the terminals of the DLC2 or DLC1.

HINT:
Cancellation cannot be done by removing the battery cable or ECU-B fuse.
- Using SST, connect terminals Tc and E1
of the DLC2 or DLC1.
- Check the indicator.
- SPEED SENSOR SIGNAL
- In case of not using TOYOTA hand-held tester:
Check the speed sensor signal.
- When the ignition switch is turned ON, check that the ABS warning light comes on for a few seconds.
- Turn the ignition switch OFF.
- Using SST, connect terminals Ts and E1
of the DLC1.

- Start the engine.
- Check that the ABS warning light blinks.

HINT:
If the ABS warning light does not blink, inspect the ABS warning light circuit (See ABS Warning Light Circuit ).
- Drive the vehicle straight forward.
HINT:
Drive the vehicle at 45 - 55 km/h (28 - 34 MPH) for several seconds. If the brake is applied during the check, the check routine must be followed again.
- Stop the vehicle.
- Turn the ignition switch OFF.
- Disconnect the SST from terminals Ts and E1
, and connect the SST to terminals Tc and E1
of the DLC1.

- Turn the ignition switch ON.
- Read the number of blinks of the ABS warning light.
HINT:
- See the DTC list shown in Fig 10.
- If every sensor is normal, the normal code is output (A cycle of 0.25 seconds ON and 0.25 seconds OFF is repeated).
- If 2 or more malfunctions are indicated simultaneously, the lowest numbered code will be displayed first.
- After doing the check, disconnect the SST from terminals Tc and E1
of the DLC1, and turn the ignition switch OFF.
