Dashboard Removal/Installation

SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations (see COMPONENT LOCATION INDEX ) and the precautions and procedures (see PRECAUTIONS AND PROCEDURES ) before doing repairs or service.
NOTE:
- Put on gloves to protect your hands.
- Take care not to bend or scratch the dashboard or the related parts.
- Use the appropriate tool from the KTC trim tool set to avoid damage when removing components.
- Have an assistant help you when removing and installing the dashboard.
- Do the 12 volt battery terminal disconnection procedure (see 12 VOLT BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION AND RECONNECTION ), then wait at least 3 minutes before beginning work.
- Remove these items:
- Front pillar trims, both sides (see TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - PILLAR AREAS )
- Side defogger vent trims, both sides (see SIDE DEFOGGER VENT TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION )
- Gauge control module (see GAUGE CONTROL MODULE REPLACEMENT )
- Driver's dashboard lower cover (see DRIVER'S DASHBOARD LOWER COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION )
- Humidity/in-car temperature sensor (see HUMIDITY/IN-CAR TEMPERATURE SENSOR REPLACEMENT )
- Upper pocket (see UPPER POCKET REMOVAL/INSTALLATION )
- Audio unit (without navigation) (see AUDIO UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION )
- Audio-navigation unit (with navigation) (see AUDIO-NAVIGATION UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION )
- Dashboard center lower trim (see DASHBOARD CENTER TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION )
- Dashboard center lower cover (see DASHBOARD CENTER LOWER COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION )
- Sunlight sensor (see SUNLIGHT SENSOR REPLACEMENT )
- Passenger's dashboard panel (see PASSENGER'S DASHBOARD PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION )
- Glove box (see GLOVE BOX REMOVAL/INSTALLATION )
- Steering column (see STEERING COLUMN REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION )
- With navigation: Detach the harness clip (A) of the GPS antenna lead (B).
- Remove the bolts (A) and the screws (B, C) securing the dashboard (D).
- Lift up on the dashboard (A) to release it from the guide pins (B).
- While holding the dashboard, detach the harness clips (C) of the sunlight sensor harness from the dashboard duct (D).
- Carefully remove the dashboard through the door opening.
- Install the dashboard in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:
- Push the harness clips into place securely.
- Make sure the wire harnesses are not pinched.
- Make sure the connectors are plugged in properly.
- Do the 12 volt battery terminal reconnection procedure (see 12 VOLT BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION AND RECONNECTION ).
